Why they came to us
Land Search and Rescue New Zealand came to us with a simple frustration. Every time they needed a change on their website, they had to pay an agency to make it. As a charity, that hurt. They want every dollar to go as far as possible, so they can help and rescue more people and be there for everyone who needs them. What they really wanted was a website they could update themselves.
What we built
We built them a custom website on a custom theme, designed from the start around one requirement: their own team had to be able to run it. Not a site that looked good on launch day and then needed an agency on call. A site where they could edit content, make changes and keep things current in-house, without paying for the privilege.
The part we are proudest of
Here is the honest measure of whether we got it right: after we delivered the site, they rarely needed to come back to us for updates. That was the point. Most agencies build sites that keep clients dependent on them, because dependency is revenue. We deliberately did the opposite. We built the site so Land Search and Rescue New Zealand would not need us for the day-to-day, and every dollar they did not spend on website changes was a dollar available for search and rescue. We are genuinely proud of that.
An ongoing partnership
That first build was several years ago, and the relationship has only grown. Since then we have taken on custom projects for them, built other websites within their wider ecosystem, created a lot of blog content, and given advice across other parts of their digital presence even where we are not the ones implementing it. For a period we also built and ran customised AI chatbots for them, which gave us and them some genuinely useful insights and feedback. Throughout all of it, the aim has stayed the same: make the charity's budget stretch as far as possible and spend it as effectively as possible, so they can help more people.
This one is very dear to our heart. Our team are outdoor enthusiasts ourselves, at home in the mountains, with a real soft spot for the volunteers who turn out when someone is in trouble. Some of us have been Coast Guard volunteers ourselves. We are genuinely happy to work with Land Search and Rescue New Zealand, we are proud to be an ongoing partner for their custom campaigns and continued development, and we intend to stay one.
